There are several ways in which you can volunteer. A few of the most needed positions are listed below. If you have talent or expertise in a specific area or field that is not listed below, please contact us and we can discuss how you might be able to help.
Foster Homes for Pets
There are no more important volunteers to our organization that those that open their homes and hearts to the animals we rescue. Most of these animals have been abused and/or neglected and need a safe haven to help them heal physically and emotionally.
This is a wonderful opportunity to help save a life and work directly with animals without making a life-long commitment. Unfortunately, we may have to turn away an animal because we don’t have a foster home available. Many times, if we don’t take an animal, it will be euthanized just because the shelter does not have room for it.
We have need for foster homes for both cats and dogs.
Transporters
At times we need help transporting animals between their foster home and an approved veterinary clinic or adoption event. Most fosters work full-time and often find it challenging to schedule veterinary visits during the day. Transporters work with the foster home to get the animals to and/or from scheduled appointments. Use of your own vehicle is required.
Adopt-a-thon/Event Staff
Often we need additional help at our adopt-a-thon and fundraising events. These duties could include selling items at our booth, talking to the public about our organization, handing out literature, assisting with adoptable pets and set-up/clean-up before and after the event.
Animal Handlers
This position assists foster homes that have multiple animals as it can be difficult to supervise more than one animal at a time. If a volunteer has an animal handler assisting them, they can often bring more animals than they would have otherwise.
Last Hope Street Team
One of the ways we advertise our animals and events is by posting our fliers, event posters and brochures in participating businesses.
Unfortunately, we don’t have enough volunteers to deliver these items to the retailer. The volunteer provides transportation.
Bakers/Crafters/Sewers
We are always looking for new and unique items that we can sell at our events to raise money. Some popular items are homemade dog treats and handmade pet accessories. We are open to any other items that you might be willing to donate.

- Adoption Vests for adoptable pets to wear at events (must be lightweight)
